5 tips to getting dewy skin

Dewy skin is in. A radiant, hydrated complexion is a sign of healthy skin. And at the end of the day, that’s what we all strive for. Healthy skin glows; it reflects our day to day habits when it comes to skincare and what we put in our bodies.

Here are 5 tips to getting dewy, healthy skin:

  1. Hydrate. Reusable water bottles have changed the game in encouraging that 8 glasses a day trope we would constantly hear from doctors. Very much similar to “an apple a day…” (but marketing is still working on that). Drinking water keeps our bodies hydrated. And as we know, the skin is the largest organ of the body. When the body doesn’t get enough water, it shows in our skin and manifests as flaky, dull skin that constantly cracks. Try to drink 64 ounces or 8 cups of water to keep the body and skin well hydrated.

  2. IV Drips. In many cases, we need to supplement our intake of water. Drinking water is an essential puzzle piece of skin health, but so are vitamins and nutrients. IV drips provide you with essential nutrients, depending on what type of drip you choose, and deliver it straight into your bloodstream.

IV drips with glutathione, antioxidants and vitamin C, among others, give your body that boost of essential nutrients that benefit your skin. Antioxidants prevent premature aging and protect the skin from UV damage.

  3. Facials. Your skin needs a reset every so often. For some, it’s once in a few months, while others benefit from more frequent visits. Everyone’s skin is different, and someone with naturally oily skin may benefit from more frequent facials as their pores tend to clog more.

Facials typically involve multiple steps - cleansing, extraction, exfoliation and some sort of hydration or addition of serums. All these steps, especially when done by an experienced professional with medical grade equipment, give your skin the tools it needs to stay clear, clean and free of debris. Even for those acne-free individuals (lucky!), the presence of whiteheads and blackheads can make your skin look less than vibrant. Schedule a facial with your aesthetician to get immediate radiant skin.

  4. Medical Grade Skincare. Don’t skip the skincare. A consistent skincare routine helps achieve a clear and healthy complexion. A study published by the NCBI found that using moisturizer in addition to drinking water improves the skins barrier function significantly. A healthy skin barrier leads to less breakages and overall a more resilient top layer that protects from external elements.

We recommend medical grade skincare products for multiple reasons. First, they are more highly regulated by the FDA; which means more consistency in every bottle you use, as well as clinical evidence behind their formula’s claims. Second, medical grade products have higher concentrations of active ingredients. This means higher quality products where less can go a longer way. The last reason that we’ll include here is that higher quality ingredients and more advanced formulations for absorption can lead to more effective, and longer-lasting results. Overall, we overwhelmingly recommend medical grade skincare to “non” medical grade products to see better results.

  5. Collagen Boosting Treatments. Collagen and elastin are responsible for making our skin look good and youthful. They give the skin its strength, stretch and bounciness; preventing sagging and the formation of wrinkles. But as we age, both collagen and elastin naturally degrade with time. This manifests as dull, sagging skin. Collagen boosting skin treatments help with this.

For instance, we see that microneedling can increase collagen by as much as 400%. According to a study by the NCBI, they published that four microneedling treatments spaced one month apart saw patients with a 400% increase in collagen and elastin after six months.

Other treatments that jumpstart your body’s natural collagen production are the Aerolase laser and Ultherapy. These treatments are designed to rejuvenate the skin and give it a healthy, dewy glow that you’re looking for. Many patients opt to add skin boosters to their microneedling treatments, such as exosomes, PRP or salmon sperm, in order to increase the skin’s cellular repair and get better results.

Extra Tip! Anti-wrinkle injectables like Xeomin or Botox often give you glass skin after treatment. That’s because it relaxes your muscles and prevents excessive movement in the skin - thus resulting in a smooth surface that allows light to bounce off your skin uniformly.
